CISV Halifax is looking for a volunteer Chapter Treasurer.  The duties of the Treasurer require attendance at the monthly chapter executive meetings, maintaining the financial records, making deposits, writing cheques (average 10/year), preparing charitable receipts (average 5 per year), a budget, the annual return for CRA, the annual HST filing and providing monthly ‘status reports.  Responsibilities take about two hours a week, plus the monthly meetings and there are some busier times when we are hosting a camp here in Nova Scotia and at the year-end.  The position is a 3-year term, which can be renewed.

Founded in 1951, CISV is a global, volunteer-run, non-political, charitable organization, which promotes peace education and cross-cultural friendship.  The organization was founded on the premise that by bringing young people of different cultures together to learn and make friends, they would become global citizens that are educated and inspired to take action for a more just and peaceful world.  Doris Allen, who formed CISV, went on to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her work with the organization.  CISV is affiliated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).  CISV Halifax has been active for twelve years and we have our own local board and operations here in Nova Scotia.  You can find out more about CISV Halifax at our website, www.cisvhalifax.ca or by googling CISV.
