BFM (Halifax) Enterprises Society is seeking a qualified individual for the volunteer position of Treasurer and Director.

The Society is Christian based and operates a 16,000 square foot thrift store, Mission Thrift Store Halifax, out of modern premises in Lower Sackville. N.S. Our mission is “To raise funds to support placing the Living Word of God worldwide”. The store is mainly volunteer based and we convert a variety of quality used goods into cash to support our mission.

We are part of a National organization which now consists of 52 stores, and in 2017 a combined $11 Million was raised to support our mission in 43 countries including Canada.


This is a vital role and responsibilities include:

  1. Board Member
  2. Oversee the financial resources of the store
  3. Review or prepare monthly financial statements and ensure these are available to the Board in a timely manner
  4. Prepare and present annual budgets to the Board
  5. Monitor performance to Budget and provide the Board with a monthly report
  6. Ensure that statutory remittances are made as required
  7. Ensure effective financial systems are in place and consistently followed in line with best practises and legal requirements.


  1. A CPA
  2. Competent with Sage , Simply Accounting, and EXCEL
  3. Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, and budgeting
  4. Sound understanding of risk management
  5. Critical and logical thinking.
  6. Personal attributes include honesty, trust, respect, integrity, and confidentiality.
