Reporting to the Emera Director, Internal Audit, Northeast you will be responsible for managing and executing Assurance and Advisory activities within the Northeastern region.


As the successful candidate, you will work closely with the enterprise-wide internal audit team. You will execute business process and compliance-based Assurance & Advisory activities for all Emera affiliates.

You are a detail oriented, innovative and critical thinker with a customer-focused strategy who will strive to continually improve the quality of our assurance and advisory activities as well as enhance Emera's overall control environment. You are flexible, open-minded, and you can get others engaged and excited by new ideas and approaches. Primary Responsibilities:
  • Execute Assurance and Advisory engagements and provide governance, risk and control related professional expertise in an advisory/consultation capacity;
  • Maintain relationships with affiliate employees, stay informed on risks and strategic initiatives impacting applicable affiliates, and gain consensus regarding potentially contentious or sensitive items;
  • Identify process improvement and efficiency opportunities in support of the organization’s overall strategy to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in all processes and to build organizational capacity;
  • Monitor remediation associated with previous audit issues and provide ongoing consultation on remediation approach;
  • Ensure Internal Audit deliverables adhere to agreed budget and timelines and are socialized with applicable management prior to finalization;
  • Assist Director, Internal Audit with completion of annual planning activities for the Emera Northeastern Portfolio.
Skills, Capabilities and Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree and a commitment to obtaining an audit/risk certification (e.g. CIA, CRMA, etc). Professional designation/graduate degree (e.g. CPA, P. Eng., MBA etc.) would be considered an asset.
  • A minimum of six years of direct or related work experience including two years in an audit, risk and control environment.
  • Working knowledge of audit concepts and techniques as well as a broad understanding of enterprise-risk, corporate governance and process and control design.
  • Experience executing internal audit work within a dynamic, complex organizational structure.
  • Experience providing process improvement and risk-based control design consultation with the proven ability to translate business needs and problems into viable and accepted solutions.
  • Experience facilitating challenging discussions and providing recommendations regarding critical areas of focus.
  • Strong influencing, communication, analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to work inclusively with various individuals to achieve shared objectives and maintain effective business relationships.
  • Proven ability to remain focused and deliver results in a rapidly changing and fast-paced environment.
