The CPA Nova Scotia Education Foundation awards $2500 to Saint Mary’s University students participating in Sustainability Case Competition

Undergraduate business students at Saint Mary’s Sobey School of Business were invited to participate and compete in the Foundation’s Sustainability Case Competition. The competition was part of the Sobey School: Responsible Leadership Conference on November 17, 2023. The eight participating case groups provided innovative ideas about sustainability and community impact.

“The presentations were outstanding; every group gave a meticulously detailed presentation, and took their own unique approach,” says case competition judge and Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs and Registrar for CPA Nova Scotia, Kathleen Franklin. “After the competition, I was able to chat with the students, and we have some very bright minds entering the workforce.”

This is the first financial award donated by The CPA Nova Scotia Education Foundation since the amalgamation of the CPA profession. The Foundation, formerly known as “The Accounting Education Foundation of Nova Scotia”, was created in 1993 by the Institute of Chartered  Accountants of Nova Scotia.  The mission of the Foundation is to advance business and accounting education in Nova Scotia. This will be achieved by focusing on the quality and quantity of students entering the profession, supporting those who deliver accounting education, and inspiring the ongoing educational experience for members and students.

With support from donors, the Foundation will provide scholarships to high school students enrolling in business programs and students enrolled in university with a declared major in accounting.  It will continue supporting universities in Nova Scotia with ongoing professional development opportunities for faculty, and awarding prizes for case competitions within the business programs to support students.

CPA Nova Scotia and the Foundation's Board of Directors are very excited to be able to support future CPAs and faculty while helping to advance business education within the province of Nova Scotia. Check out The CPA Nova Scotia Foundation website to learn more.
