Search for Director with Financial Acumen

The Nova Scotia Career Development Association (NSCDA) is a not-for-profit professional organization with approximately 600 members from across the province. The NSCDA’s goal is to strengthen the role of the career development profession within Nova Scotia by providing both guidance and the tools to ensure members can maximize their potential.

The ultimate goal of NSCDA and its members and clients is to work towards having a sufficient, well trained workforce in place in Nova Scotia in the years to come.

Some salient points:

  • In 2015, the Province of Nova Scotia outlined a Framework for Delivery of Employment Services through its Nova Scotia Works Centres. NSCDA is responsibile for certification and professional development of all client facing personnel. This has been a significant client group.
  • NSCDA is in high growth mode with tremendous opportunities for new services and markets. Over the past 2 years staff has doubled and membership has grown from 350 to over 600. Revenue growth has been substantial and diversified.
  • Since 2019, NSCDA and its clients have been working towards a major shift towards the digital delivery of services that positions the sector well for the post-COVID-19 environment.
  • The Board has transitioned away from being a “Working Board Model” to a “Governance Model” in 2018. There are currently 8 Board members with a plan to move to 9 this year, in addition to 2 replacement members.
  • The Board of Directors requires a Board member with professional financial qualifications, such as a CPA, in order to provide guidance, insight and oversight on financial & fiduciary matters.
  • This is an exciting volunteer opportunity within a vibrant organization, undergoing significant change, on a mission that is critically important to the well being of the Province of Nova Scotia.
